Subject

Description

This article was published on the first page of the February 28th, 1984 edition of "The Quad". It details her presentation that occurred as part of the 1984 Black History Month. Joe Hart notes that the central idea from Angelou's presentation is that for an individual to improve their status, they must read and learn. She spoke of her own origin as a poor black woman and the ways she achieved success through education. Though her presentation appears to have been directed at the upward mobility of poor black individuals, she notes that there is a mutual history between all.
