"I Care Week" planned Human relations The fact that BSU has decided to boycott "I Care Week" shows that a lack of trust exists here at West Chester State College, said Jeanette Sam, director of Affirmative Action (and human relations and desegregation). "This incident in itself should call attention to the fact that there is a need to be concerned about other people," said Sam, and that is what "I Care Week" is all about. "The idea of 'I Care Week' is really a call to make a commitment to the improvement of human relations at WCSC, explained John Main, chairperson of 'I Care Week'. "It means we care about human relations." We're concerned that BSU has withdrawn their support, but BSU has said they would be willing to hear more about "I Care Week," added Sam. The social activities of "I Care Week" will provide an opportunity for the faculty, staff and students to talk and mingle, said Main. Handbills will be distributed on Monday, Oct. 24, explaining "I Care Week," and Tuesday, Oct. 25, there will be a rally to officially open the "I Care" program, Main announced. President of WCSC Charles G. Mayo will deliver a statement on human relations at the rally and there will be an opportunity for others to make a speech, he added. "We're asking clubs and organizations who wish to affirm the idea of "I Care Week" to have booths set up during this week to display their activities, said Main. "I Care Week" has been set up by the I Care program at WCSC, said Sam. "The program itself is designed to increase the number of minority students at WCSC through recruitment and retention." "The program's goals are to provide a positive support system for minority groups," she added. "The I Care Program" is supposed to "pick up where the New Student Orientation program left off and include faculty and staff' declared Sam.
